Inside the Darkness
Cult of the Hare is the imagined following of Aya Atrox, a Sarsota based painter and video artist. It's possible that this fantasy world that Aya paints has become something that she truly believes in. She does fancy herself an Evil Countess, after all.
Aya Atrox takes great inspiration from the paintings of Medieval Europe, particularly Royal portraiture and Religious Iconocraphy. She fuses the elements of Medieval art, such as the flatness and dark palletes, with her own animal headed people to create surreal and uneasy modern pieces. Aya does have a background in film education and can't seem to help creating a story with each of her series of paintings.
Not unlike her paintings, Aya's video work is based in creating an unsettled audience. With the combination of nightmarish visuals and a pulse raising soundscape, Aya hopes to leave those who watch her videos with bad dreams. Her art videos are not much more than experiments for her own sadistic pleasure.
